Due to the increasing presence of seabirds in Tromsø, new approaches to managing bird habitats are being explored. High bird concentrations near people create sanitation and health concerns. A floating structure made from wooden food crates, attached to coastal breakwaters and placed slightly offshore, provides nesting spaces and encourages birds to settle away from crowded areas.
